Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have killed two people, including the chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for Mai Dabino community in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Saidu Basa.
The Incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at about 3:30 pm, along the road leading from Mai Dabino to Danmusa.
It was learnt that the ruling APC had called for a stakeholders’ meeting in Danmusa, and had invited its members within the council area to attend.
Basa reportedly attended the meeting and had given a lift to a passenger who was going to the market at Mai Dabino community.
A source said it was while they were on their way back from the meeting that they were accosted by the gunmen who shot at them in the process.
Both men were buried Wednesday evening according to Islamic rites.
Danmusa is amongst several council areas facing dire security challenges, with many communities in the area experiencing the same almost weekly.
Hundreds of lives have been lost, with many more abducted for ransom, while thousands of domestic animals have been rustled since the security situation began in the state more than a decede ago.
As at time of report, spokesperson for the police in the state, ASP Abubakar Aliyu as well as state APC chairman, Sani Daura, did not immediately respond to inquiry on the incident. (The Guardian)
