Nigerian athletes at the ongoing 13th African games in Ghana
The performance of Nigerian athletes at the ongoing 13thAfrican Games in Ghana has been described as ˜impressive by the management of Premium Trust Bank, the lead sponsor of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
Apart from its financial commitment to AFN, the bank has the world record holder in 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, and world silver medalist in the long jump, Ese Brume, as brand ambassador.
Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, the Managing Director of Nilayo Sports, Bukola Olopade, who is the chief consultant for both Premium Trust Bank and AFN, stated that the top performances by Amusan, Brume and other Nigerian athletes in Ghana is worth commending.
Amusan, on Wednesday, proved why she is Africas best track and field star, as she grabbed two gold medals to lift Team Nigerias medals haul at the Games.
After winning gold in the 100m hurdles to retain her title, Tobi Express, as she is fondly called, anchored Nigerias 4x100m relay to a gold medal.
On her part, Ese proved her worth as Africas best long jumper, as she retained her African Games title on Thursday evening with a leap of 6.92m. She became the first Nigerian woman since 1978 (after Modupe Oshikoya, 1973 and 1978) to successfully defend a long jump title at the Games.
I just spoke with some top officials of Premium Trust Bank, and they are full of praise for our athletes and the AFN leadership, Olopade said.
What that means is that Premium Trust Bank is ready to put more money into its sponsorship with the AFN for the Federation to get better results at the African Championship scheduled to hold in Cameroun soon, and the Paris Olympic Games. As a consultant to the AFN, Nilayo Sports Management will continue to do its best, Olopade stated. (The Guardian)
