Over 600 apply to coach Super Eagles, Golden Eaglets

No fewer than 600 have applied for the recently widely-advertised Super Eagles and Golden Eaglets coaching positions recently by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Almost a fortnight ago, the NFF declared the Super Eagles head coach position vacant after Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro officially left the post at the end of last month after guiding the Nigerias national mens team to a second place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Asides the vacant Super Eagles managerial position, the NFF equally declaredvacant the coaching position of the national Under-17 team (Golden Eaglets), last held by former Nigeria International defender, Nduka Ugbade.

Application for the respective publicised positions closedon Tuesday with words rife that some high profile former Nigeria internationals that include Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Emmanuel Amuneke, Sunday Oliseh, as well as Finidi George whoassisted Peseiro, beat the deadline to submit their applications to replace Peseiro.

But a decent source who pleaded anonymity hasexclusively told NationSportthat the NFF has receivedhundreds of applicationsfor both jobs, adding that thefederations technicalcommittee would soon begin proper screening of theapplications.

Of course, there areso many interested coachesready to handle both the Super Eagles and Golden Eaglets but I understand over 600 persons actually applied for both jobs, the source told NationSport in confidence.

Often regarded as one of the most sought-after coaching jobs around the world, consequently the apparentdeluge of interests for the Super Eagles managerial position. But many stakeholders are rooting for an indigenous coach tosucceed Peseiro. (The Nation)
