Sen Ifeanyi Ubah
By CHIMEZIE ANASO
Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah (APC) representing Anambra South District, has commended the Nigerian Senate for passing the bill for the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
Ubah, who sponsored the Bill, said in a Statement on Wednesday that the passing of the Bill in February was a pleasant end to the journey which he started on Oct. 4, 2023, when it was read for the first time as SB.129.
He said the SEDC Bill was important to addressing the development challenges faced by the Southeast, adding that there was the need for targeted interventions to promote economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare of the people.
“I commend the Senate for working tirelessly to ensure that the Bill process was not discontinued after its First Reading and for diligently working to ensure its passage.
“This Bill will not only put the perceived marginalisation of the South East to an end, but would also enable the South East zone to benefit directly from the federal government intervention programmes when passed into law.
“These benefits are already being enjoyed by other zones like the South South and North East through the Niger Delta Development Commission and North East Development Commission respectively,” he said.
Ubah assured that the present federal government was committed to the development of various regions of the country and that he was confident that the Senate would prioritise the implementation by ensuring that the Commission was effectively established and empowered to function.
“My commitment to working towards the development and prosperity of Anambra South District, South East region and the country as a whole is sacrosanct, and I will always put in my best to ensure that your interests are always protected,” he said. (NAN)
