A meningitis patient
No fewer than 25 students of Government Unity College Malam Madori, Malam Madori local government area in Jigawa had been hospitalised for suspected CerebrospinalMeningitis(CSM).
Reports from the state indicated that the primary healthcare development Agency (PHC) of the state over the weekend confirmed the outbreak of the disease in six local government areas in the state.
A source from the Ministry of Education prepared anonymity as said he is not in the position to speak with media told Online Tribune that the students were down unconscious on Friday night and were taken to Hadejia General Hospital for medical attention.
The source explained that “when taken to the hospital, their samples for medical test at the Hadejia general hospital to confirm what the actual illness is.
The source also said that “the attention of the commissioners of Education, Health and Environment has been drown. Where each ministry has sent a team of experts to investigates the matter”.
According to him “the students’ water source, food and kitchen has been critically checked and found out everything is in order, nothing to affect the health of the students”.
He stated further that “some time last month two students of the school infected with a strength disease and died in the hospital few hours of been infected”.
“The two students where from different local government areas in the state. The first deceased was from Guri while the second was from Miga local government areas”.
When contacted, the Jigawa state commissioner for health Dr Mohammed Abdullahi Kainuwa through his mobile telephone confirmed the outbreak.
The health commissioner declined to comment further and said; “I’m presently in my way Abuja. You can meet me in office when I return”.(Nigerian Tribune)
