Although issues which arose from the last Kano gubernatorial dispute have been laid to rest, it will take some time for the dust raised to settle.

One interesting aspect of the election aftermath was the drama from different quarters. Relying on the outcomes of the tribunal and Appeal Court, the return of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Kano Government House was a done deal for numerous party members.

So confident were they that they took different means to express delight. However, on Friday, a five-member panel of justices of the Supreme Court unanimously held that the lower court erred by annulling Yusuf’s victory.

The lead judgment by Justice Inyang Okoro also held that the issue of Governor Yusuf’s membership was a pre-election matter. The court finally upheld the governor’s victory.
