The Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has predicted that Professor Anthony Ani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the forthcoming February 2024,Ebonyi South Senatorial bye-election, will emerge victorious at the polls.

Senator Nwebonyi made the disclosure when he was special guest of the Channels Television programme, “Lunchtime Politics”, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

The Federal Legislator further maintained that the other contenders for the coveted seat from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party will not pose any threat to the candidate of APC during the forthcoming Ebonyi South bye election.

According to him, “I must tell you that Ebonyi State is APC. You know we had the three Senatorial seats before now. This bye election is coming up as a result of the resignation of my master who is now the Minister of Works, His Excellency, Senator David Nweze Umahi.

“Our party has observed the provisions of the law specifically the INEC guidelines and the constitution of APC in nominating Professor Ani to fly the flag of our party and that is victory assured because our party has gotten it right by choosing a very credible candidate with requisite experience to give the people of Ebonyi South effective representation that they desire.”

Asked if the Professor Ani is politically experienced to match the duo of Silas Onu of PDP and Linus Okorie of the Labour Party at the senatorial election, Senator Nwebonyi dismissed the insinuation, adding that a professor who has served the university for decades certainly possessed the requisite experience to represent his people at the upper Legislative Chamber of the National Assembly.

He noted that the Ebonyi state APC is united, strong and focused family whose passionate commitment is to serve the needs of the people in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government and the People’s Charter of Needs Initiative of Ebonyi State Government.
