The students of the Delta State Polytechnic Otefe Oghara on Thursday went on peaceful protest over the painful death of an HND two computer science student of the school while lamenting over oppression from the indigenes who are the host community of students of the polytechnic.

It was alleged by the students that one landlord, Mr Felix Ajari, who is the younger brother to the community youth chairman, Mr Freedom Ajari, murdered the deceased known as Abraham Ichie.

The students, who said the indigenes of the area were always oppressing the students of the polytechnic, stated that the student who was murdered had a misunderstanding with the said landlord, who shot him at night.

While addressing the students, the rector of the institution, Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, told them to be calm as they will get justice.

The rector, who felt the pain of the students, tried to ensure there was peace and advised them to take things easy as not to take laws into their hands, saying the issue had been reported to the police.

Speaking to newsmen, one of the students, Ota Oghenekevwe, said the student who was killed was an only child of the mother. He stated that the landlord had an issue with the student during the day and murdered him at night.

Ota reiterated that what they needed was justice and for the government to put a stop to the injustice being melted on students by indigenes. (Delta State News Bulletin)
