Kogi State House of Assembly
The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Umar Yusuf, on Sunday affirmed that members of the Assembly would on Monday resume plenary at their renovated complex in Lokoja, the state capital.
He said the complex, razed on October 10, 2022, had been renovated and handed over to the Assembly for use.
Reports said the chamber, gallery, furniture, roof and air conditioners were completely burnt in the fire incident that started around 7am. It was gathered that it took firefighters from Dangote Cement in Obajana to put out the fire hours after.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed, in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, said the complex had been fully renovated and handed over to the Assembly.
He stated that, “The renovation of the complex has been completed and we hope to resume plenary in the complex by tomorrow, December 11, by God’s grace.”
Meanwhile, the convener of the Annual Kogi Built Environment and Building Materials Exhibition (BEBM), Mr Oladipo Bayode, has commended the technical competence and workmanship put into the renovation of the assembly complex.
Bayode described the job as “a world class construction with high value for money.”
Bayode, who gave the commendation during a visit to the project site, commended the contractor and all service providers who handled the project.
He stated that, “As a professional body, we hereby commend the handling of the renovation project. It is a marvelous job and we are proud of it. It is our hope that the contractor will continue to maintain the laudable standard he is known for, in all his projects.
“We urge the astute building contractor to continue to be a shining light for others to emulate within and outside Kogi.” (Daily Trust)
