The Abia State Government has suspended the traditional ruler of Ibom Isii, Arochukwu Kingdom, Arochukwu L.G.A., HRH Eze Dr. Kanu Nwa Kanu.

A letter to that effect dated October 25, 2023, signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, announced the setting up of a disciplinary committee to investigate Eze Nwa Kanu “for flagrantly flouting the provisions of the code of conduct for Traditional Rulers in Abia State, and the Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Communities law; via abuse of office, and established cases of flagrant disregard of official directives of Government.”

Entitled, “Suspension from Office as Traditional Ruler”, the letter was copied Governor Alex Otti; Chairman, Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Linus Mba; Chairman, Arochukwu LGA Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Solomon Nwaizu; and Abia State Head of Service, Ochu Ikpo Kalu.

The letter was silent on Eze Nwa Kanu’s specific offence but News Express learnt that it may not be unconnected with his alleged support for an impostor claimant to the vacant stool of Eze Aro of Arochukwu.

The letter reads: “You are hereby suspended from office as a Traditional Ruler, Ibom Isii, Arochukwu Kingdom, for flagrantly flouting the provisions of the code of conduct for Traditional Rulers in Abia State, and the Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Communities law; via abuse of office, and established cases of flagrant disregard of official directives of Government.

“A Disciplinary Committee has been set up to further investigate your activities and advise the Government on the next steps to be taken.

“Please be properly guided.”
