The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, and Tuesday visited the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Montgomery said he was at the APC headquarters to congratulate Ganduje on his new role as the party’s helmsman.
He also said his country has a keen interest in the November 11 governorship elections in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa states.
He said, “Of topical concern are the off-season elections in the three states. We are watching closely to see how the process will be carried on.”
He also described the APC as a national party “helping to shape the politics of Nigeria”, adding that the legal issues regarding elections in Nigeria including reclaiming of mandates at the courts were part of the democratic process.
In his remarks, Ganduje said, “If a political party is not well-structured, democracy will be affected. We are looking forward to stronger ties.”
He said democracy is about good governance, stressing that the APC represents a strong democratic institution that is the hope for all Nigerians. (Daily Trust)
