Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, yesterday, expressed shock and grief over the death of the state’s commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), Ibrahim Garba, at his 777 Housing estate guest house in Maiduguri.

His body was found alongside a yet-to-be-identified woman who was discovered unconscious and later died at the hospital where she was taken for treatment.

The remains of the two are currently at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where an autopsy was being conducted to ascertain the cause of their deaths.

The State Government had on Sunday confirmed the commissioner’s death, after returning from Banki, Bama and Konduga with the governor to distribute food and non-food items to vulnerable households.

Reacting through his spokesperson, Isa Gusau, Governor Zulum, commiserated with the late commissioner’s family, loved ones, friends, associates, and members of the state executive council.

He said the state police command has begun an investigation into Garba’s death, adding that the state police commissioner,Yusuf Lawan, had visited the 777 Housing estate guesthouse where Garba was found dead.

The spokesperson was, however, silent on the yet-to-be-identified woman with the late commissioner.

Garba, a key figure in Zulum’s administration, was previously the Special Adviser on Special Projects before he was appointed commissioner of RRR at the commencement of Zulum’s second term. (The Guardian)
