The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has revealed that Kwara state is highly vulnerable to the danger of human trafficking and child labour.

NAPTIP added that this is so because the state shares borders with the Benin Republic and states with high records of human trafficking in Nigeria.

The commandant of NAPTIP in the state, Saadu Ajara, said this when he was hosted by the state commissioner for Social Development, Opeyemi Afolashade, in her office in Ilorin.

Ajara said that the ills of human trafficking include, prostitution, child labour, forced labour and death.

He disclosed that collaboration with the ministry through sensitisation, and the use of a task force was necessary to abate the menace.

He added that the agency has the mandate to curb human trafficking especially child labour and other related matters.

Responding, the commissioner expressed the state government’s preparedness to partner with the agency in tackling the menace of human trafficking across the state.

She said that the collaboration would offer the needed support against the fight, especially child trafficking, saying that the menace was reducing but should be brought to the barest minimum in the state. (The Nation)
