Cross Rivers MVAO chapter during a visit to NUJ Cross Rivers Chapter
The Motor Vehicle Administration Office (MVAO) in Cross River state has decried the reduced level of caution among drivers during ember months.
Akak Eyo, the head of operations of the office, disclosed this during a sensitization visit to the Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
He disclosed that because of money, drivers throw caution into the wind because of money, saying this has to stop.
He said: “Ember Months Is one period drivers become restless, and throw caution into the air because they want to make money.
“If you are using the road, this information is for you, we are sending this message of safety across so that our roads will be safe. If you obey all the rules, you will find driving a very sweet experience.
He disclosed that this year’s Ember Months campaign in the state which will start on the 10thof October will have a theme: Safety First-Drive to Survive.
He solicited the support of journalists in the state to drive this message home.
He also pledged to continue partnering with the media to ensure that roads in the state are safe not just during the ember months but beyond.
On his part, the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Nsa Gill said the message is apt and the union would do its best to push the message out and also ensure the right information gets to road users.
He said besides sensitizing drivers, passengers should also be sensitized on areas that are blind spots to avoid flagging vehicles in such places.
He assures the Motor Vehicle Administration Office of their cooperation and expressed optimism that sanity will prevail on roads in the state. (The Nation)
