LAWMA officers sealing up Idioro Market
The Lagos State Government announced on Tuesday that it has sealed the Alamutu market at Idioro in Mushin due to its poor sanitary conditions.
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this announcement in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
“On my directives, #Lawma_gov earlier today (3rdof October) sealed up Alamutu (Ologede) market at Idioro, Mushin,” Wahab wrote.
“The market was sealed due to its poor sanitary conditions and inefficient waste disposal practises,” he added.
Meanwhile, it was lamentation galore on Monday for traders at the popular Ladipo International auto spare parts market, Mushin, as they struggled to make ends meet following the closure of the market four days ago.
Wahab had on Friday, September 29, ordered the closure of the market over environmental offences.
These offences, according to Wahab include reckless waste disposal, unhygienic premises and non-payment of waste bills, among others.
He said the market would remain closed until mandatory conditions for reopening were met by the traders and market stakeholders.
The Commissioner added that it was part of the ongoing efforts to enforcing compliance in markets around Lagos State. (The Guardian)
