Governor Charles Soludo
There is tension at Government House Awka, following threats of mass resignation from Prof Charles Soludo’s cabinet following the resignationof the commissioners.
The commissioner for finance, Mr Ifeatu Onejeme on Thursday resigned from the government citing family affairs.
It was gathered that besides the commissioners, other aides are also spoiling to resign their appointments over what they considered high-handedness by the governor.
The Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Christian Aburime had on same Thursday announced the resignation of Commissioner for Finance Mr Ifeatu Onejeme.
In a statement, Aburime said Soludo had accepted the resignation of the commissioner and wish him well in his future endeavours. He said that the governor had commended Onejeme for meritorious services to the government and the people of Anambra State.
“Mr Ifeatu Onejeme was appointed Commissioner for Finance by Governor Soludo at the beginning of the administration to help the new government settle in. Mr Ifeatu Onejeme has also previously served as Commissioner during the Obiano’s administration.
“On behalf of the government and great people of Anambra State, i wish to express our gratitude for your commitment, professionalism and great service to Anambra State over the past nine and half years as Commissioner. I particularly appreciate your services over the past year and five months as you worked diligently to facilitate a seamless transition from the previous administration to the current one. While we will miss your services, i appreciate your personal and family circumstances that warrant the resignation.
“Here is wishing you success in your future endeavours and hope that you will continue to avail your services in the development of Anambra/Nigeria in other spheres. With all best wishes” he stated.
A source close to the government who did not want his name on print said that more commissioners and aides of the governor may likely resign their appointments given the way and manner Soludo treats them.
According to sources, the governor treats the commissioners and his aides as students and never allows them to make input during meetings.
“If Soludo is holding meeting with his commissioners and aides he does not give them the opportunity to air their opinions. He is the headmaster while others are pupils. He does not believe in cross fertilisation of ideas. He believes that he knows everything. Some of the commissioners and the aides who are principled may likely leave the government to face their businesses,” he said.
The source, said that the commissioner for finance resigned from the government because of third party’s interference in the affairs of his ministry and he decided to leave the government to maintain his integrity.
