Anambra targets N2 billion internally generated revenue monthly

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has reiterated the state government’s resolve to drive the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), from the present N1.3 billion to N2 billion monthly.

He made the statement yesterday during the Anambra State IGR summit in Awka, saying that his administration would achieve the feat without increasing tax but only enhance the method of collection.

The summit was designed specifically to evolve ways of improving revenue in the state.

Obiano revealed that the state government had introduced Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the collection of taxes as a means of eliminating fake tax collection in the state.

He insisted that the state government would continue to ensure prudent management of resources, expressing delight that Anambra was one of the four states in the country that could pay their workers regularly despite the economic crunch in the country.

On his part, the Managing director of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, organisers of the event, observed that payment of taxes would go a long way towards enhancing the socio-economic development of the state and called on the state government to deploy efficient tools to monitor compliance to ensure economic growth.

He stated that one of the objectives of the summit was to create an avenue for exchange of ideas among industry experts on the best use of models in the development of the state.

Okonkwo listed appropriate legal frame work for revenue generation, development of appropriate technology, improving the security of lives and property of the people, creating enabling environment for private sector, strong political leadership in drive for IGR, fiscal discipline and value for money, as well as rigorous enforcement and engaging the people through

persuasion as measures that would achieve the desired result.
