The crisis rocking Ifitedunu in Dunukofia local government area ofAnambra stateover president-general, Uchenna Nwoyehas taken another twist following the war of words between commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Collins Nwabunwanne and a prominent leader of Ifitedunu, Chief Vincent Chukwugozie Udobi.

It was gathered that while Udobi accused Nwabunwanne of being responsible for the crisis, demanding his removal, Nwabunwanne accused Udobi of taking advantage of his affluence to destabilise the community.

Udobi and some community leaders had argued that the president-general was not eligible to continue to lead the community, being an ex-convict.

He said: “Nwoye was convicted and removed before Governor Soludo came into office but Nwabunwanne reinstated him because of his friendship with Soludo which led to his (Nwoye) being reinstated in office.

“Nwoye was disowned by all the village chairmen in the community but he continued to parade himself as thereby destabilising the community.”

Reacting, the commissioner said the community’s constitution required that the decision to sack an elected president-general must be supported by two-thirds of those present at a general meeting.

He described it as a disappointing public assault meted out on President-General in the marketplace by thugs alleged to be brought by Udobi, calling on security agencies to take action and effect necessary arrests.
