Boko Haram terrorists have captured 60 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), including three commanders, in Borno State, The Guardian gathered.

The recent power tussle between the two terrorist groups occurred on Monday in the Kukawa-Madayi-Kwatan/Mota axis of the state, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama, posted on his social media platform, yesterday.

Pointing out that the ISWAP terrorists were captured on their way to Damasak in Borno, he identified the commanders as Abubakar Saddiq, Abou Maimuna and Malam Idris.

Buduma factions of Boko Haram, he stated, had the upper hand against ISWAP in the recent turn of events, leading to the capture of most ISWAP enclaves.

According to him, wild celebrations followed the development in Boko Haramcamps.

He explained: “They forced them (ISWAP) to take refuge in more fortified hideouts in the axis of Kukawa and Madayi and Kwatan Mota.

“On August 13, 2023, Boko Haram factions intercepted about 60 ISWAP terrorists, including three key commanders, Abubakar Saddiq, Abou Maimuna and Malam Idris, on their way to Damasak. The captives were later taken to an underground cell at Kwatan Mota near Dogon Chukwu, where they were held as Prisoners of War.”

Meanwhile, over 78 Boko Haram terrorists and their families have surrendered to troops of Sector 3, Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in Monguno Local Council of Borno.

According to the MNJTF, the terrorists and their families surrendered after the troops destroyed their camps in Sambisa Forest.

Makama disclosed, yesterday, in Maiduguri: “There is raging infightings with ISWAP that led to the killing of over 100 terrorists of both Boko Haram and ISWAP sides in a week.”

He noted that the terror groups were attacking each other, adding that, in most cases, they attacked anybody in sight, including women and children. (The Guardian)
