Niger State College of Nursing Sciences
Stakeholders in the healthcare sector in Niger State have expressed concern over the shortage of personnel to man the primary and secondary healthcare facilities.
Checks in Minna, the state capital, revealed that the facilities were under-staffed; hence, the need for more hands to enhance service delivery.
Provost of Niger State College of Nursing Sciences, Aisha Maikudi, told our reporter that shortage of manpower in the healthcare sector “is worrisome and calls for intervention.”
Maikudi disclosed that experienced medical personnel were retiring from the service, and those still in service, mostly women, were ageing.
“Our male counterparts in the medical profession are leaving the sector for greener pastures. We need urgent replacements,” she said.
Government, she added, can employ young nurses to replace the retiring ones. The Provost lauded Governor Mohammed Bago for his commitment to improve the healthcare sector, which would go a long way in providing an enabling environment for the personnel. (The Guardian)
