Ahead of the inauguration of the 10th Assembly on June 13, no fewer than 25 Governors have adopted Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Barau Jibrin for the position of Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively of the 10th Assembly, it was learnt on Tuesday.
It was further learnt the 25 Governors are seriously mobilising Senators-elect across the three major parties, including the All Progressives Congress(APC); Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and Labour Party.
Among others, the 25 pro-Akpabio are Governors of Kwara, Nasarawa, Benue, Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Ekiti, Osun, Kogi, Rivers, Cross River, Kaduna, Borno, Ebonyi and Ondo States.
These Governors, the majority of whom are from the APC-controlled States, have consistently maintained that they would faithfully uphold the unanimous zoning decision of the National Working Committee of the party.
The Governors, it was learnt, added that the NWC has made the most profound decision that will promote institutional stability and the peaceful conduct of legislative proceedings in the 10th Assembly in the next four years.
Also, a source close to the APC Governors’ Forum pointed out that they are looking forward to a most peaceful, stable, result-oriented and highly productive Senate in the 10th Assembly.
He stressed that based on the demands of governance in Nigeria at the moment, both the Executive and the Legislature must have a cordial and stimulating working relationship. (The Nation)
