Lawyers troop in for the pre-hearing at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja on M
The Labour Party (LP) opened its case this morning by calling its first witness before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).
The court earlier this morning allocated three hours for the hearing in the petition by the LP and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
But, when asked by the court how many witnesses they have in court for the commencement of their case, their lawyer, Livy Uzoukwu (SAN) said the petitioners have only one witness in court today.
Obi and his running mate in the February 25 poll, Datti Baba-Ahmed, attended the Court hearing.
Though Obi had attended a number of proceedings in the past few weeks, Datti-Ahmed attended court proceedings for the first time on Tuesday, a day after the inauguration of the candidate, Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s President.
Meanwhile, the Tribunal on Tuesday adjourned hearing of the petition of the Allied People’s Movement against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC and others to June 2.
The adjournment is to give the petitioner time to acquire a certified true copy of the Supreme Court Judgment, delivered May 26, 2023, which laid to rest the controversies around the double nomination of Kashim Shettima. (Pieced together from stories by The Nation and Channels TV)
