The Abia Governor-Elect, Dr Otti
The Abia Governor-Elect, Dr. Alex Otti has restated his promise to prioritise the welfare of Abia workers in line with his campaign promise, as a way of inspiring patriotism in service and ensuring productivity that would give room to economic revival of the state.
Dr. Otti made this promise on Friday when he played host to the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Abia state chapter, led by the Chairman, Comrade Paschal Nweke.
The meeting offered the governor-elect the opportunity to listen to the Union Leaders and understand their grievances with a view to proffering lasting solutions that would guarantee industrial harmony.
He insisted that workers' welfare and well-being is what every serious-minded government will never joke with, and promised to ensure that decisive and far reaching measures will be taken going forward so as to restore sanity in the Abia Civil Service and erase the sad experiences Abia workers have had over the years.
Members of the Abia NLC had a few weeks ago embarked on indefinite strike action over none payment of several months of accumulated salary arrears, a development that has worsened the already battered Abia economy.
To express their hope of a new order under the leadership of the ex-bank Chief, many workers and pensioners had stormed Otti’s campaign headquarters days after his historic victory at the polls, dancing and celebrating what they described as their day of Liberation.
Like millions of other Abians, the workers are presently waiting with joy and excitement as the state prepares for the planned historic inauguration of Dr. Otti as the fifth executive governor of the state.
