Imo LP Governorship Candidate, Sen Athan Achonu
The 27 local government chairmen of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State loyal to Julius Aburi as well as its wards and zonal leaders have reaffirmed Senator Athan Achonu as winner of the recent governorship primary of the party.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday at the party Secretariat along Wetheral road, Owerri, Chief Tony Asomugha, zonal chairman for Okigwe, said the primary election was the most fairest and peaceful since the history of the state.
He also affirmed that the election is authentic from other primaries conducted by other aspirants of the party.
Asomugha stressed that the election was witnessed by almost all the National executive members of the party, including the Abia State governor-elect, Alex Otti, who announced the results himself.
He also claimed that none of the delegates were bought over contrary to insinuations, but the better candidate won.
“I have never seen a primary election as fair and peaceful as this since in my life,” Asomugha said, adding: “All 16 aspirants were given same opportunity.”
He urged other aggrieved aspirants in the spirit of sportsmanship to accept Achonu as their candidate and unite to deliver him in the November 11 governorship election in the state.
All the members present unanimously have also passed a vote of confidence on Achonu who they vowed to support to win the governorship election in this state. (Adapted from a Daily Sun report)
