Abia State Governor-elect Alex Otti
Collation agents of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and about five others refused to sign the final results sheet when an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) called on them as is the rule.
At the resumption of the collation of the much awaited results of the March 18 governorship election in Umuahia, the capital of Abia state, the party agents having rejected the contested Obingwa Local Government Area results declined to sign the sheet. This was observed asNews Expressmonitored proceedings in the Collation Centre on a live television in Abuja.
The election Returning Officer for Abia state, Prof Nnena Nnannaya-Oti however declared the candidate of the Labour Party, Alex Otti as the winner of the election.
Collation of results was suspended Monday night following claims by the PDP and LP that their candidates won and should be declared winner.
However, jubilation has erupted in Umuahia and other parts of the state trailing the declaration of the governor elect and doused the lingering tension in the state.
Meanwhile, the governor-elect in his acceptance speech has said he would govern Abia as a ‘servant leader’.
Otti called other contestants to join hands with him to salvage Abia State.
Otti also assured he would not go on vendetta and witch-hunt of his political enemies.
