Sanwo-Olu gains upper hand over Rhodes-Vivour as Lagos governorship election results trickle in

Governor Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, seems to be on course for re-election going by early results of today’s election, which sees the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate gaining the upper hand over his main rival, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP).

In what could be a sign of the times, Sanwo-Olu beat Rhodes-Vivour in his Polling Unit 01 at Oshifila Street, Anifowoshe, Ikeja. Rhodes-Vivour polled 18 votes while Sanwo-Olu won with 29 votes.

In the House of Assembly election at the polling unit, the APC polled 34, LP 15, while PDP polled one vote.

Another major contestant in the election, Olajide Adeniran, popularly known as Jandor, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled only two votes.

Sanwo-Olu’s deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, delivered his polling unit with a wide margin, polling 218 votes at Oke-Balogun as opposed to Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and Jandor, both of whom polled 5 votes each.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, delivered his Polling Unit 008 at Elizabeth Fowler Primary School, Mercy Eneli Street, Surulere area, with 181 votes for Sanwo-Olu and APC to defeat Rhodes-Vivour, who polled 55.

Wife of the President-elect, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, won her Polling Unit 034 at Falomo, Lagos, for Sanwo-Olu

In the poll results announced at the polling unit, APC polled 66 votes as against 21 by the Labour Party, one by the PDP, one by the ADC with one declared void by the INEC official.

In the House of Assembly election, APC scored 68 votes to defeat Labour Party which polled 20 votes. The PDP scored two votes with one void.

Jandor, however, won his Polling Unit in Irewe, Ishagira hometown, Ojo, polling 116, while Sanwo-Olu polled 90 votes.

But it was a different story for Jandor’s deputy, Funke Akindele, who lost her Polling Unit 019, Ita Aro Square, Àga/Ijimu ward in Ikorodu, where APC scooped 77 votes, leaving only 19 votes for PDP.

LP’s Rhodes-Vivour polled only three votes.

Collation of results is on-going across the state.
