•Warns against further attacks, seeks FG, Sanwo Olu’s intervention

The National Vice President of the Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Okeke Ogene, yesterday, condemned the attack on the Akere spare parts market inOlodi Apapa, Lagos, describing the development as unhealthy for democratic process in Nigeria.

The spare parts market, mostly owned by Ndigbo, was allegedly attacked and burnt down the early hours of Wednesday by yet-to-be-identified persons.

He also described the situation as a dangerous precedent, warning that no tribe should be treated or seen as strangers in Nigeria because of political affiliation or choice, insisting that no person or group has monopoly of violence.

Ogene called on the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, to urgently intervene in the on-going face-off between Ndigbo and the suspected thugs, allegedly working for a certain political party in the state before it gets out of control.

“The destruction of goods and properties of Ndigbo nation wide without government intervention is unacceptable and highly condemnable.

Henceforth, Ndigbo would resist any attempt by any tribe, groups or organisations that may want to unleash mayhem on her under any guise in any part of the country.

“I also want to call on our brothers in Southwest to look inward and find a lasting solution to the ugly development, because this country belongs to all of us,” he noted.
