•PDP Candidate, Okai, calls for total cancellation

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ordered for the rerun in 42 polling units of Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency of Kogi State were the Saturday exercise was marred with brazen irregularities with matchets and guns freely used by political thugs.

But, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and renowned activist, Usman Austin Okai, asked INEC to cancel the Dekina Local Government result in its entirety and provide adequate security for the rerun in the area.

He said the state-induced thugs had reigned heavily across the local government chasing away PDP supporters, confiscated the BVAS machines, outrightly destroyed the ballot boxes and papers and rewritten the results to favor the APC candidate.

The human rights activist said on Sunday evening that the hoodlums and APC mercenaries are readily available to be used by the ruling APC without restraint, calling on the security agencies to rise up to the occasion, as police in the area had compromised.

Okai also urged INEC staff to demonstrate patriotism in the course of carrying out their statutory functions, rather than meddlesomeness during the forthcoming rerun.
