Hannatu Bawa
A female councillor in Plateau State, Hannatu Bawa, who was kidnapped on Tuesday by gunmen has escaped from her abductors.
The PUNCH had reported that the female councillor who represents Kabwir-Fadar ward in Kanke Local Government Area of the state was kidnapped at her house in the community.
It was learnt that after Bawa was kidnapped, she was taken to the neighbouring Bauchi State by her abductors where she eventually escaped miraculously after spending about four days in their custody
A resident of Kanke LGA, Moses Bap confirmed the female councillor’s escape from the kidnappers to The PUNCH in Jos on Saturday.
Bap, however, said that she had been taken to a hospital where she is currently receiving treatment
Bap said “I can confirm to you that our councillor has regained her freedom. From what I heard, she escaped from her abductors in the Das Area of Bauchi state where she crept through the bushes until she reached a town called Boi also in Bauchi state.
“She then called the chairman of Kanke LGA, Henry Gotip who mobilised the police and other security agents and rescued her. Right now, she is in a hospital where she is receiving treatment because of the trauma she passed through in the hands of those kidnappers.”
The Spokesman for the Plateau state police Command, Alabo Alfred when contacted said he was yet to get the report of how the female councillor made her escape
“I will get informed when I get the report of how she was rescued. As important as the news of her rescue is, we are at the moment monitoring the ongoing election to ensure that there is no security breach in any part of the state,” the PPRO said. (Saturday PUNCH)
