Some filling stations in Sapele are refusing cash transfers for purchase of their products, insisting on physical cash and thereafter sell to POS agents with charges.

The cash scarcity in Sapele is further worsened by the activities of some filing stations that insist on physical cash for their products, refusing cash transfers.

Prominent among the filling station is Santos Filling Station at Ogodo Road. They refuse to sell to vehicles, motorcycles and tricycles each time they have products.

It was observed that Santos filling station prefers to sell to customers with gallons who are mostly black marketers and the payment method is cash.

An eyewitness, who begged for anonymity, said “if you are a POS operator in Sapele and want cash, go to Santos Filling Station and apply, they will tell you when to come for your cash purchase and they have their charges according to the amount of money you demanded.”

Anthony Igbedia, another eyewitness said that he happened to get to the filling station along New Ogorode Road by Akintola Road Junction, at the time Delta State task force stormed the filling station, but to his surprise, the management of the station refused cash transfers, POS transaction and only sold to customers with physical cash, making many customers like him to drive out without purchase as he did not have cash.
