Residents of Asaba have lamented the scarcity of Naira notes due to the cashless policy by the Federal Government of Nigeria, Delta State News reports.

Mr Maduka Emmanuel, a civil servant, decried the suffering he had been through, saying that “To withdraw the sum of 5,000 Naira has been hell.”

He stated: “I have been in the queue for over five hours to withdraw cash so that my family can eat. My family is in hunger and I have money that I cannot withdraw.”

In an interview with Mrs. Rukevwe John, a trader, she lamented the shortfall in the patronage of her business, saying that the cashless economy was responsible.

Sales are slow, everyone wants to transfer as little as two hundred Naira and the problem is you cannot withdraw from the bank.”

She added: “Customers are not even coming because they also lacked money to buy goods and services.”

Kelvin Daniels and Nancy Emeka, who are undergraduates, expressed displeasure on the present realities.

They stated that they could barely feed, and live a normal life due to the cashless policy.

They urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to find a lasting solution to the problem to save the poor masses from hunger and malnutrition, especially among children.
