The Delta Central Senatorial District Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Delta State, Peter Omaruaye, has called for calm to prevail as news reports of protesters burning several Banks in Orhuwhorun, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State trended on Social Media yesterday.

A press release signed by the Senatorial hopeful and titled, “The Ongoing Disturbances In Udu Local Government Area Brought About By The Scarcity of New Naira Notes”, stated that, If elected, his top priority would be to call for an investigation into the entire process of the currency swap, with the aim of preventing such systemic failures in the future.

“Today’s news reported that several banks in the UDU local government area, specifically at Orhuwhorun junction, were burnt and vandalized due to the ongoing failure of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to release sufficient funds in the form of new Naira notes for public disbursement. As I sympathize with citizens who are unable to access their funds held in these banks, I urge for calm to prevail.

Omaruaye concluded that he understood the daily struggles of businesses that require Naira notes to conduct their essential activities, such as buying food to feed their families and therefore called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to end the scarcity of new Naira notes.
