Seven people died on Sunday in an accident in Lanle, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.
The accident, which happened about 8.48pm, involved a trailer (FKA-327 XA) and a commercial Ford Mini-bus (SHA-140XH). It was learnt that the two vehicles collided as the mini bus tried to overtake another vehicle.
Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kumar Tsukwam confirmed the accident, saying it was caused by excessive speeding and loss of control.
According to him, seven persons were involved in the accident; six died on the spot while the seventh victim died yesterday at the Kutigi General Hospital. Tsukwam said the FRSC and RED Cross personnel were at hand for the rescue operation.
He added: “The bodies were handed over to Vice Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Abubakar Ahmed, in the presence of the police, while the vehicles are with the Kutigi Police Division for further investigation.” (Text, excluding headline: The Nation)
