At least, four persons have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and killing a woman identified as Chioma.
Arrested were two men and two women who were okada operators popularly known as Monkey Duala; they trailed the female chicken seller to her area of business and abducted her.
It was gathered that Chioma, a widow, and chicken seller, at the Nnobi livestock market was lured into the hands of the kidnappers in December 2022 by her former mistress who also sells chicken at the market.
Sources told Daily Independent that the woman invited the victim to Nnewi to purchase some chicken, but she was eventually abducted by the suspects on reaching the place.
It was also learned that the female suspects and former mistress of the victim paid the sum of N1 million to the okada operator, two others, and a native doctor and ritualist at Nimo who later killed Chioma some days ago.
The suspects were apprehended by the local vigilante men at Chioma’s mistress house at Nnobi where they had gone to cash half of the money on Monday night on a tip-off.
The woman confessed to committing the offense saying that the victim had become rich, friends with a Hausa chicken supplier and usually had sex with him, a thing she said provoked her to anger.
The PPRO Anambra Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the story expressing appreciation to the Nnobi community.
“The command is pleased with this development. It was through the help of the community that these suspects were apprehended and brought to the station. We are already interrogating them and the case shall be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” the PPRO said.
