Nigeria has performed poorly in the fight against corruption as its status slides further in 2022. Thus comes after the corruption perception index unveiled its result yesterday in Abuja. The result shows that Nigeria has again, fallen to the bottom of the ladder.
Nigeria, according to Transparency International (TI) is ranked 150 out of 180 countries in the world.
The index reveals that Nigeria scored 24 out of 100 points in 2022 CPI.
TI said compared to 24 points in 2021 CPI, “there has been no change in country scoring between 2021 and 2022”.
TI said: “The index is impartial, objective and globally acknowledged as the most widely used cross-country parameter for measuring corruption”.
It stressed that it is not an assessment of Nigeria”s anti-graft agencies. TI insists the anti-corruption agencies are making commendable efforts in the fight against corruption in the country, despite the political interference they face.
“Rather, the CPI goes beyond the anti-graft agencies”, TI said.
Speaking during the unveiling, the Executive Director, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, said: “The data used for the CPI was not collected by CISLAC/TI-Nigeria but by independent and reputable organisations with sound research methodologies”.
