Ex-YDP Presidential Aspirant Lawrence-Ekoh
A former presidential aspirant of the Young Democratic Party (YDP) in the 2019 presidential election, Comrade Fidelis Lawrence-Ekoh, has taken to his Facebook wall to express concern on why the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, did not consider to be at the background “and use his good influence to support a healthier, youthful and visionary candidate rather than slugging it out on the campaign trail.”
While acknowledging the fact that Tinubu is a great leader, Ekoh noted that APC fielding a younger candidate “would have been a great move to save him and Nigeria of the mockery of old age being bandied on social media.”
Ekoh’s words: “If his love for Nigeria was true and genuine, BAT shouldn't have thrown his hat into the ring.
“Every right thinking Nigerian should be worried about photos of the presidential candidate sleeping at events.
“Tinubu should have stepped down from the presidential race and given way for a younger and more visionary Yoruba man.
“Tinubu is indeed a great leader and there’s no doubt about that.
“While acknowledging this fact we are worried that age was not on his side to face the true rigours of leadership of a country like Nigeria.
“He should have considered to be in the background and use his good influence to support a more healthy, youthful and visionary candidate.
“He helped put Lagos on international map of business destinations of Africa.
“He is also credited to have increased internally generated revenue of Lagos which has made the state a place of excellence.
“However at this critical time in Nigeria's history, we truly need someone that can face Nigeria very squarely.”
