Tinubu
Igbos across the 19 Northern States and Abuja have described as untrue the trending report that it endorsed the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for the next year’s election.
A statement jointly signed by the group’s President and the Secretary Generals: Chi Nwogu and Austin Oforkansi respectfully said it has not at any point in time held a meeting on the issue.
Copy of the release titled: “Igbo leaders in the North have not endorsed any presidential candidate for the 2023 elections yet” copy given to our reporter decried what it described as the antics of detractors.
According to it: “it has come to our notice on the purported story of endorsement by Igbo unions in the nineteen northern states and Abuja of the candidature of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in 2023
“We Igbos in the 19 northern states and Abuja under the umbrella of Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA) are equally dismayed by the actions of another group of unknown individuals said to be representing the unions,” it lamented.
Referring to a publication in a national daily in which he alleged that an impostor on the platform of Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA) endorsed Tinubu, it said: “lets the state for the records that the town unions in the 19 Northern states under the umbrella of IDA have at no time met and resolved to endorse the candidate of any particular party for the 2023 presidential election. When we do so it will be an open forum following the due process of consultations which is still ongoing.
“We say here emphatically that we Igbos in the 19 Northern States and Abuja and all our town unions are advising politicians to be wary of impostors.
“Politicians should be weary of political jobbers with no political value,” it cautioned, urging: “we however call on our kindred, the Igbos in the North to come out en mass and participate in the electoral exercise to contribute in the collective decision to elect leaders in the 2023 elections and at the same time remain law abiding and go about their business in accordance to the laws of their respective states of residence.” (The Guardian)
