LP Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi
It was sheer resentment at the Central School Amawbia in Awka-South local government area of Anambra State during an Empowerment Programme put together by the lawmaker representing Awka-South 2 constituency, Hon. Pius Chukwuma Okoye, as APGA faithful, booed the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim over what they saw as careless comments against the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
The Deputy Governor while making few remarks at the occasion, allegedly attempted to discredit Mr Peter Obi, saying that the LP presidential candidate should not be voted for instead they should channel their votes to the APGA presidential candidate on the grounds that the APGA government has done massively well in Anambra state.
The Deputy Governor said, “Anambra is APGA. Don’t allow the minority to deceive you. APGA government is working for Anambra state. Labour party is not known in the North. It is either Tinubu or Atiku or Kwankwaso. Therefore you all should hold on to APGA.
Initially, APGA had two states in Nigeria but Rochas Okorocha deceived us and sold Imo state to APC. So what Governor Soludo is saying is that we should try and secure the Southeastern states to enable us to get our fair share at the central. “
But on the contrary, some APGA faithful on the occasion countered the Deputy Governor maintaining that although they are members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, they will vote for Peter Obi.
They said nothing can change it. That they will vote for Peter Obi in the presidential election irrespective of his political party and vote for APGA at the senatorial, House of reps and house of assembly elections.
They said it is Peter Obi they want as the next president of Nigeria. That the Igbo nation is solidly behind Peter Obi, and that the All Progressives Grand Alliance can not stop them from voting Mr Peter Obi.
They unanimously concurred that the Deputy Governor erred in his comments instead he would have said that they should vote for Peter Obi for president and vote for APGA in other categories of the election. (Daily Independent)
