Labour Party (LP) has raised the alarm that criminal elements were annihilating its supporters in Southern Kaduna.
The National Secretary, Umar Ibrahim, said the killings going on in major strongholds of the party in Kaduna State and other parts of the country were calculated attempts to demoralise its supporters
While addressing the media yesterday, in Kaduna, the LP scribe appealed to party members and supporters to remain calm and be law-abiding.
He assured that the national body of LP was following all cases of killings in Kaduna and other parts of the country till justice is not only done, but seen to be done.
“Our great party has noticed, with dismay, in recent times, killing of our supporters in Kaduna, particularly, in Southern Kaduna, which is one of our strongholds and the constituency of our governorship candidate, Jonathan Asake. We must rise to the occasion. We are calling on the state government and security agents to end this heinous act.
“Just last week, our party lost eight members in Kaura and Zangon Kataf local councils. These killings within a short time are highly condemnable and insensitive, especially, in this festive period. Our party strongly condemn these killings and we cannot continue folding our arms seeing our members killed daily,” he asserted.
The party called on the Kaduna government to do all it could to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to book.
“We, in the Labour Party, want the state government to be proactive in protection of life and property of the citizens. It should, as a matter of urgency, put all the mechanisms in motion to apprehend and prosecute whoever has hands in this criminality.
“The killing of the women leader, Mrs. Victoria Chintex, of LP in Kaduna is still fresh in our minds and we will follow up with her gruesome murder till government apprehends the culprits. Her husband, who was attacked in the process, is still receiving treatment as we wish him speedy recovery.”
