Political Counsellor at the British High Commission’s office in Abuja, Mr. Jonathan Bacon during a visit to Governor Nyesom Wike in Rivers State on December 12, 2022.
The British High Commission in Nigeria has expressed its interest in seeing that the upcoming elections in Rivers State, as well as other parts of the country, are free, fair and credible.
The Political Counsellor at the Commission’s office in Abuja, Jonathan Bacon said this after a delegation led by him met behind closed doors with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in the state on Monday evening.
Bacon restated that the British Government is committed to supporting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in achieving an acceptable election next year.
“We discussed how we could further strengthen the cooperation between the UK and Nigeria, and the UK and Rivers State,” he said. “We also discussed the electoral period, looking ahead to 2023, and I reiterated the British Government’s position that we are supporting the process.
“We are working very closely with INEC and we are hoping for a free, fair, and credible election in 2023. So, we discussed that and it was a very productive exchange.” (Channels TV: Text, Excluding Headline)
