Kaduna PDP Governorship Candidate, Ashiru
By GARBA MUHAMMAD, Kaduna
Isah Ashiru, Kaduna State Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, promised to bring to an end, the current security situation bedeviling parts of the state.
He made the promise while unveiling his five-point agenda at a parley organized for candidates of various political parties by the Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Ashiru’s agenda covers sectors as Security, Agriculture, Health, as well as Youth and Women Development.
He noted with serious concern, the deteriorating security situation which has brought sleepless nights to the people, as well as the divisiveness and suspicion among the diverse ethnic groups in the state.
“Poverty and unemployment, coupled with the unwarranted retrenchment of workers with unpaid entitlement, could be seen as pronouncement of death sentence to compound the insecurity situation in the state,” he said.
He also promised to end disunity among communities and restore dignity of the people of the state.
The guber candidate, while explaining the steps he would take to achieve his manifesto, said he would bring about growth and development to the state, as well as succour to the people, if elected as governor.
According to him, with agriculture as the largest employer of labour, peasant farmers would be made to go back to the farm and be supported with farm inputs while subsidy on fertilizer would be restored.
“Most of the abandoned agricultural agencies will be revived towards attracting foreign grants,” he said.
On health, he promised to establish diagnostic hospitals in each of the three Senatorial zones, adding that “most of the existing hospitals were mare structures that should have been equipped.
“With over nine million populations, Kaduna has less than 200 medical doctors as against the universal standard ratio of one to 600 people.”
On education, Ashiru promised to introduce skills-based education to produce employable hands, especially artisans.
“I will set up a committee to review the increase in tuition fees at the State University to affordable level to curb drop outs,” he said.
Ashiru is the first Gubernatorial Candidate in the State to appear at the Parley.
Meanwhile, in her welcome remarks, Asmau Yawo Halilu, Chairman, NUJ, Kaduna State Council, reiterated the union’s commitment to providing a level playing ground for all the candidates of all parties.
