Former Super Eagles skipper, Daniel Amokachi, and some artistes on the platform of Salute Nigeria Initiative, an NGO, have sought the Federal Government’s collaboration on the implementation of their ‘Sustain Our Unity Project’
The NGO led by a musical artiste and Nigerian Music Ambassador to Germany, Amb. Chielo Ojirika aka “Chiboy the Black Courage” stated this in a statement he issued in Abuja on Thursday.
Ojirika stated that the group sought the collaboration of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons when it paid a courtesy visit to the commission’s Federal Commissioner, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim in Abuja.
According to him, the group is presently executing a national renewal and rebirth advocacy programme titled “Sustain Our Unity Project”
“The project is a crime prevention, reintegration, reorientation and engagement of vulnerable persons through sports, creative arts and digital skills.
“It is targeted at schools, Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camps, churches, mosques and local communities to achieve the goal,” artiste said.
He said that the ‘Sustain Our Unity Project’ is a sister programme for the ongoing Finger off the Trigger, a national peace and disarmament campaign in collaboration with Salute Nigeria Initiative.
“Other Organisations include Nigeria Police Force with the support of The State House, Abuja, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Voice of Nigeria (VON) and National Orientation Agency (NOA),” he said.
Amokachi, who is also the Special Adviser to the President on Sports, described the project as positive one, saying it will be used to discover more talents there by reducing and preventing crime in the society.
“Sports especially football remains a major unifying factor in Nigeria and the whole world.
“Whenever the Super Eagles are playing, no one remembers his tribe or religion, that is to show how powerful sports is,” he said.
Responding, Sulaiman-Ibrahim said that the project is coming at the right time as Nigerians need to come together to overcome the current challenges been faced by the country.
She stated that unity is key to reorientation and reintegration of IDPs,
Saying that lack of peace and unity is the root causes of increase of vulnerable persons at the same time a catalyst to hunger in the society.
She advised the group to ensure that the project is taken to the remotes areas of the country.
The commissioner promised to support the realization through the commission’s collaboration.
Other members of the group during the visit include, Salihu Mahmud Dantata, Chief Kelechi Uhiara, Mr. Fatai Bakari and Blessing Ofoedu. (NAN)
