Dr Maryam Kawu, a medical doctor with Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Kano, has cautioned Nigerians against sleeping in overcrowded places to avoid Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM).
Kawu, who gave the caution in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Tuesday, said recent changes in weather condition could cause airborne and infectious diseases which might lead to death.
She said that avoiding overcrowded places/contaminated food, sleeping in ventilated rooms, observing good sanitation and hygiene and routine immunisation of children under five years could prevent meningitis.
She listed the symptoms of the disease to include high fever, headache and shivering, adding that meningitis could also cause blindness, hearing impairment and related health challenges.
She advised mothers to avail their children of regular immunisation against the seven child-killer diseases for a healthy family. (NAN)
