The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, has pledged its commitment to the promotion of development ideals in the State through objective reportage.
The Union made the position known in a six-point communiqué at the end of their Congress held at Dr. Sam Egwu Press Centre, Abakaliki on Thursday.
“That as the Fourth Estate of the Realm, the Union appreciates its members for displaying high sense of responsibility, commitment and dedication to the discharge of their duties.
“That members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ebonyi State are more than ever committed to sustaining their contributions to the socio-economic and political development of the state through objective news reportage and publications,” the communiqué read in part.
The Association which scored its members high for their professional conduct in recent past, appealed to security agencies to evolve means of ensuring adequate protection of Journalists during the forthcoming 2023 General elections.
According to the Congress, “The Council is working assiduously to ensure the safety of journalists in their line of duty as preparation for 2023 Election gets underway and calls on security agencies and major actors in political circle to see Journalists as partners in progress.”
The NUJ also commended Governor David Nweze Umahi for his massive infrastructural transformation in the State and thanked him for heeding the clarion call to contest the 2023 Presidency.
“The NUJ in Ebonyi State is satisfied with the overwhelming infrastructural and human capital development taking place across the state, courtesy of the state Governor, Engr. Apostle David Nweze Umahi, and urge him not to relent in restoring the lost glory of the state.”
“The Union commends the governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, for accepting the clarion call by the people of the state to contest the Presidential Election come 2023 and enjoined Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion or political leaning to support his aspiration for equity, political inclusiveness and a better Nigeria.
“That the Union assures him of its support by ensuring that his numerous good projects, policies and progress will continue to dominate media spaces to the glory of God,” the communiqué added.
