Increasing intake of substances believed to be drugs among youths in Lagos is a source of concern and unless is arrested urgently could increase insanity among the youths, the Lagos police command has warned.

The commandsaid a likelihood ofan increase in insanity amongtheyouthsisdue to the level of uncontrollable indulgence in dangerous drugs.
Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, CSP Adekunle Frederick Ajisebutu, disclosed this at an eventto mark the Peace & Conflict Resolution and Prevention month, organised by the Rotary Club of Agege.

Represented by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, DSP Kuti Stephen,Ajisebutu noted that the vice is traceable to the nonchalant attitude of parents, who have abdicated their parental responsibilities in the area of training and close monitoring of their wards.
The event,held at the instance of the President of the Club,Biodun Bello, is themed: “How we can prevent conflicts and maintain peace in our society.”
He said: “Sometimes, a youth was caught with the drug, ‘Loud’, which is stronger than marijuana and recent discovery also has it that they now mix this with another stronger drug called ‘Colorado’ to make them high.With these two, a lot of youth will become mad.

“Many youths go into rituals to be rich while children at the age of 17 are seen with exotic cars, living in hotels and it is common to see tattoos on their bodies.
“As a privileged Operation Officer for an anti-cultism unit for Lagos State Police Command at a time, I discovered that about 60 per cent ofyouths in Lagos State were in different cults.”

In his remarks, Bello called on parents to have time for their children.
He commended Rotary for eradicating polio and disclosed plans by the club to partner with some Indian clubs to donate malaria drugs to members of the Agege community. (The Guardian:Excludes headline)
