Three suspected armed robbers were arraigned on Thursday, February 24, 2022, before the High Court of Justice Kaduna State for the killing and robbing Abdulkarim Bala Ibn Na’Allah, a pilot and son of serving Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah (Kebbi South).

The accused persons, Bashir Mohammed, Nasiru a.k.a Balarabe and Suleiman Salisu a.k.a Usman Dan Kano, were arraigned on a three-count charge of attack with a knife, tying and severally stabbing Abdulkarim to death and robbing of him of his Lexus vehicle and other valuables at his residence in Kaduna on the August 29, 2021.

The offence of culpable homicide if found guilty is punishable with death under section 190 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

Avong Emmanuel, Counsel to the third defendant Suleiman Salisu a.k.a Usman Dan Kano, pleaded with the court to grant his application for bail on ground of ill health.

Bayero Dari, solicitor general and the lead prosecution counsel, opposed to the bail application, saying that such application can only be considered when the plea of the defendants is taken.

Dari also told the court that taking a motion for bail before legal representation of other two accused persons (Bashir Mohammed and Nasiru Salisu a.k.a Balarabe) would be taking the cart before the horse going by the nature of the case against the defendants.

Avong B. Emmanuel later announced to the court his willingness to also represent the second defendant, Nasiru Salisu a.k.a Balarabe.

The presiding judge, Justice Amina Bello, directed the Registrar of the court to seek legal representation from Legal Aid Council for the first defendant, Bashir Mohammed.

The case was adjourned to March 21, 2022 for further mention.
