Residents of Kotokoto in Udu Local Government Area of the Delta State, were yesterday thrown into mourning over a young man who died from electric shock.

The deceased, who was identified simply as Elijah, was a worker with Concept Table Water in Kotokoto Community, where they produce large quantities of bags of water for sale on a daily basis.

According to a friend of the deceased known as Godwin, who narrated the incident to our correspondent, said that the deceased and one of his co-workers worked till 10.00 pm in the previous night to get extra pay.

He said that the other worker went home because his residence was nearby but the deceased could not go home because his own residence was far off.

Continuing, he said at night, the deceased was working on bags of water that had leakages to dispose them properly, adding that while the deceased was working, BEDC restored power in the area.

He alleged that there was a leakage in the water producing machine and it electrocuted the deceased on the spot.

A fellow worker of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, also spoke to our correspondent, saying: “We resumed in the morning at about 6.00 am; we saw the production room wide open, only to discover Elijah’s body on the ground behind the water producing machine.”

He further stated that it was not the first time the deceased was working late to make extra pay.

A nearby neighbour known as Happiness, who also spoke to our correspondent said that she heard someone screaming at the time BEDC restored power in the area but she could not come out because it was around 12 midnight, saying that it must have been the deceased screaming for help.

When contacted by our correspondent, Delta State Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, said that he had not been briefed on the incident. (Delta State News Bulletin)
