A teenager, Idris Yusuf (18), has allegedly killed a man, Saifullahi Abdullahi (28), during an argument that degenerated into a fight in Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Yusuf and Abdullahi, both football lovers, were arguing over which European football team was better between Barcelona and Chelsea football clubs when the incident occurred.
According to a police report, the incident happened December 18, 2021, and Yusuf was subsequently arrested and is currently facing a culpable homicide charge in accordance with Section 190(4) of the state penal code law, 2021.
The police further revealed that Saifullahi’s father, Abdullahi of Kofar Garbas Quarters, Danja, reported the incident at the Danja Divisional Police headquarters on December 20, 2021, which led to the arrest.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello told a Katsina Senior Magistrate Court where Yusuf was arraigned that Saifullahi collapsed and became unconscious during the fight.
Bello added that the deceased was rushed to Danja Comprehensive health centre where he was later pronounced dead.
The police prosecutor told the presiding senior magistrate, Hajia Fadile Dikko that investigation was already in progress on the incident.
He, therefore, sought a new date that the case could come up for mention before the court.
Hajiya Dikko granted the request and adjourned the case till March 7 for the mention, even as he directed that Yusuf be remanded in a Katsina Correctional centre till said date.
