Apex Igbo sociocultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has urged the rest of the Southeast governors to set up the Ebubeagu security outfit.

It hailed Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi on the launch of the state’s command of Ebubeagu.

Southeast governors and leaders had in October in Enugu, restated their resolve to launch the Ebubeagu security outfit in all the five states of the region.

The leaders also vowed to get the laws passed in various states to back the outfit before the end of 2021.

However, since that meeting, Umahi, who is the chairman, Southeast Governors Forum, is the only governor in the region that has so far launched the security outfit in his state few days to the end of the 2021.

Ohanaeze, therefore, commended Umahi for his courage, assertiveness, vision and granite commitment and determination to take Ebonyi to the next level.

The group described the launch of Ebubeagu in the state as ‘jinx breaking’.

In a statement by its spokesman, Alex Ogbonnia in Enugu on Thursday, Ohanaeze described Ebubeagu security outfit as one that has a direct link with the families, hamlets, villages, town union executives and the traditional rulers of all the communities within the jurisdiction.

The statement reads; “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide salutes His Excellency, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, the Governor of Ebonyi State and the Chairman, South East Governors Forum on his jinx breaking launching of Ebubeagu, Ebonyi State Command on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo has maintained that security is a collective responsibility; a security architecture that is delinked with the people cannot identify criminal elements among the people.

“The Ebubeagu security outfit has a direct link with the families, hamlets, villages, town union executives and the traditional rulers of all the communities within the jurisdiction.

“The security consciousness and network of the above levels of Igbo community administration makes Ebubeagu very unique and imperative.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo commends Governor Umahi for his courage, assertiveness, vision and granite commitment and determination to take Ebonyi State to the next level.

“The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ambassador Professor George Obiozor, in his Christmas and New Year Message to Ndigbo at Owerri on December 17, 2021, had called upon the South East Governors to keep to their promise by rolling out the Ebubeagu security outfit before December 31, 2021. He added that this will go a long way to enhance security situation in the South East.”

Congratulating Umahi on an exemplary leadership, Ohanaeze urged the other state governors to roll out their Ebubeagu outfits without further delay. (The Nation)
