The Youth Peace Building Foundation has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the security challenges eating deep into the fabric of Nigeria.
The group in a letter dated December 11, 2021 and captioned, “Deteriorating Security Situation in Nigeria” lamented the deteriorating security situation in the country.
The letter which was signed by the National President/Chief Executive Officer, Muhammad Aji Kabir, reads in part: “May I remind you that this Organisation on 15th December, 2020 Published a letter stating the various security challenges in the country and how such challenges could be effectively managed; however more recently, the activities of armed bandits in the North west/central, Boko Haram in the North east, IPOB/ESN onslaught in the South east/south and other criminal activities in the country have made all efforts by the Federal Government of Nigeria abortive and thereby sabotaging the successes of the ongoing war against insurgency and, to a very large extent, caused a very visible division in Nigeria.”
The group observed that despite efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in ensuring that it carries out its constitutional roles, that the Armed Forces are over-stretched with little or no allowance(s) to augment.
It described the situation as not only demoralizing but one that needs highest attention.
Continuing, the letter said: “The Armed Forces as you know, Sir, are Organisations that work on the orders of the highest office in the country and you are the custodian of that office.
“More so, it is important to remind you, Sir, that you made a promise of youth inclusion in governance and evidently enough, we have seen youth participation in your administration but there is still need to bring in more youths and women into governance.
“Also, youths should be more engaged in community and social intervention programmes through CSOs, CBOs, WOs, etc., with the Federal Government providing grants for such purposes. This, if implemented and properly supervised, shall reduce the vulnerability of the youths as well as help to manage the menace of unemployment.
“While it is our firm belief that the Federal Government shall act swiftly, the Youth Peace Building Foundation shall engage relevant stakeholders in ensuring Nigeria remains united under the umbrella of love and togetherness.”
